Ships consume only 10% to 20% of the energy trucks require to carry the same quantity of merchandise.

Green Tech for shipping

The Shipping Federation of Canada, the St. Lawrence Economic Development Council (SODES) and Innovation Maritime, under the auspices of  Green Marine, are organizing a conference in February 6-7 2008 on environmental technologies for the maritime industry. The conference will also include discussion on R&D financing for marine environmental initiatives and will be accompanied by a commercial exhibition. Domestic and international shipowners, ship operators, fleet managers, and port and marine terminal employees will all be interested in attending the event, as will any other company within the marine industry that is looking for concrete tools to improve its environmental performance.

The event will be of particular interest to companies that have signed on to the Environmental Program of the St. Lawrence and Great Lakes Marine Industry, which focuses on environmental management, training and R&D as a means by which companies can continuously improve their environmental
performance. A rebate will be granted to participants of the Green Marine Environmental Program. The GreenTech conference will be followed by the Mariners' Workshop on February 7
